What is Brand Visibility and Why Should it Matter?
In order to sell your product or service, your ideal customer needs to know about it.
Brand Visibility is when your brand is showing up and being seen by potential customers. (Both online and offline). Examples would be: on your website, in a newsletter, in a blog post, social media posts, YouTube video, on a podcast, in a publication, a direct mail announcement,or a business card left at your local Chamber of Commerce, etc…
It’s no question that consistently showing up will help your business stay top-of-mind.
But, here’s the thing, many thought leaders say we need to be posting on every platform every day to succeed. Now if you’re anything like me, the thought of doing that is totally overwhelming and unachievable. As an introvert the whole visibility thing of putting myself and my business out into the world is already putting me out of my comfort zone most of the time.
I like what Seth Godin says: “ Vanity metrics don’t matter. They are irrelevant. Doing something remarkable matters.” “If you create enough value, you’ll be fine”.
That’s the true challenge:). We have to figure out how to matter and provide value.
Yes, we definitely need to be visible, BUT, we also need to be relevant!! You can post all day long, but if your content isn’t connecting with your potential customers it’s just noise. When your customer says “She gets me” or “ I want to work with someone like her”, you know your brand messaging is resonating.
Once we figure out how to offer something worth talking about, THEN, maybe the answer is INTENTIONAL VISIBILITY.
Rather than trying to show up everywhere, I’ve decided to choose a few key locations my ideal customers are likely to be and then strategically share brand stories, values (and of course personal branding photos that are in alignment with my messaging) to show how I can help potential customers.
Showing that you care with intention and heart will help you to gain trust. Being consistent (whether that’s once, twice or three times a week) will grow familiarity with your ideal customer.
Visibility helps you to be found. Relevance helps you to be remembered.
