Headshot or Brand Photoshoot - Which Do You Need?

As Gary Vee says: “With the rise of AI, your personal brand is becoming more important and valuable.”

Your personal brand can showcase your personality and perspectives and those will differentiate you!

So, this is my answer…if you have an established personal brand already, and just need to update your headshot to have something more current, or get a headshot because you never had one, than I understand going with just the headshot.

However, if you’re in a business that depends a lot on whether your potential clients trust you and feel comfortable with you, I feel that growing your personal brand should be a priority.  And, that’d include being consistent in how you show up online, both with brand photographs and messaging.

What is a headshot?

A formal headshot is usually a photograph that focuses mainly on your face.  It can include part of the shoulders.

A lifestyle headshot is less formal and can be shot outside.

A headshot is like your online business card.

The client usually receives 1-3 edited photos.  They’re usually similar poses, in the same outfit with a simple background.

Headshots are often used for Linked-in profiles, team pages or about us pages on websites, in email signatures, on marketing materials (biz cards and brochures), and on Zoom

Headshots are important, because they contribute to the first impression you make online.

What is brand photography?

Brand photos help to tell a more complete story about YOU and your business.  They can include headshots, but also many other types of shots. (you at work, your work environment, product or service, team, clients, off-work hobby, etc…

The number of brand images you’ll receive depends upon your photographer.  It can vary from 20-100+.  Sometimes, the images are included and sometimes they must be purchased separately.

Brand images can be taken in multiple locations and multiple outfits.

Brand photos are a huge marketing asset for your business.  They’ll provide social media content options for weeks and lessen the time and stress required by you to show up online consistently.

Your professional headshot allows you to make a positive first impression online.

Your collection of brand photos help to build trust and connection with potential clients and also help with brand recognition.

Both types of photographs contribute to your personal brand.
